AI has numerous applications and some of my readers are of the view that we have not discussed enough about them. So here are some of the main applications of AI: -
Medical industry
In the medical industry, AI is used to find new treatments for diseases. Pharmaceutical companies use it to discover new chemicals and to find new uses to existing chemicals. AI can also be used to analyze medical reports and discover new insights about treatment. IBM Watson Health uses AI to analyze data and help doctors diagnose diseases and recommend personalized treatment plans. AI is used in surgery where robotics can be used to perform surgery.
Transport
AI can be used in the transport industry where it can guide the navigation systems of flying taxis and cars. The EU has funded a technology called VI-DAS which enables self-driving cars to detect possible dangerous situations and avoid them. It is also used in aeroplanes when pilots deem planes can be left on autopilot. AI in the transportation industry is used alongside with navigation systems and sensors in order to make cars driverless. It can also be used to improve railway traffic of metro systems.
Sales and ecommerce
AI can be used in the ecommerce industry to provide better content to customers through recommender systems and AI can be used to analyse vast amounts of customer and sales data in order to provide products that customers buy more often. Cybersecurity
AI can be used in cybersecurity systems in order to automate cybersecurity to counter online threats. These days, AI has already been integrated in software such as Microsoft Defender, Kaspersky and Sophos so as improve cybersecurity systems. AI can help to identify cyberattacks and other cyber threats based on available data and also help to find solutions to cyber threats.
Finance
AI in the Finance industry can be used to help improve risk management, fraud detection and investment strategies. AI algorithms can also be used to analyze financial data in order to make predictions, helping customers and businesses make better decisions. It can also be used to enable transparency and compliance, and automate operations and reduce costs. It can also be used to give highly personalised recommendations to products and financial services. Robo-advisors like Betterment are used in Finance to provide personalized investment advice and portfolio management making financial planning easier and more accessible.
Social media
AI can be used in social media in order to enhance recommendations, detect fake news, and improve customer engagement. AI algorithms are used to analyze user behaviour in order to provide relevant posts and ads. They can also be used to provide new social connections on social media. Facebook uses AI to show personalized content to its users that is relevant to their interests.
Agriculture and farming
AI can be used in agriculture in order to control the use of pesticides, fertilizer and irrigation systems in order to improve productivity and reduce the environmental impact. AI can also be used to control the temperature of agricultural systems. AI-powered drones can be used to monitor soil conditions and weather patterns, and provide valuable information to farmers.
The applications and uses of AI are many. However, they should be used with caution as AI systems require careful management. AI will transform the global economy causing those industries who can quickly and effectively adopt AI technologies to maintain their lead. We should also be careful of the invidious effects of AI control and guard society against misuse of AI. All AI systems should be assessed for their potential for misuse before being deployed.
AI can help bring increased economic benefits but it should not be at the expense of human health and spirituality. The new age will also cause a revival of old wisdom traditions but these should be carefully preserved as they represent our cultural heritage.
